Purging - Finances to Fitness

I’ve been a child with my finances for the last…well…always. I’m finally doing the work to tend to my finances and part of that includes purging the bills that are not absolutely necessary. Needless to say this made me take a real close look at what I deemed “necessary”. As my financial mentor was going through my endless list of bills, cutting out what I had originally thought was necessary, I began shedding my definition of necessary and looking at everything with new eyes. My bills were able to be cut by almost one third!

Well, my financial mentor created a monster because when I got home I began looking around the house and in my closet asking myself…”What is really necessary?”. 3 giant trash bags and a couple of boxes later my closet only has about 1/3 of the clothing and shoes it did only a couple of days ago.

And this is just the beginning! My goal is to have 7-10 outfits that I rotate through and maybe even less after that.

As I was going through all of the clothes, deciding what I wanted to keep and what I was letting go of, I had a few profound realizations.

~ I had so many different types of clothes because I wanted to “look” good, The thing is that now I know I AM good, and trying to look good just isn’t the same anymore. I radiate! Clothes just amplify what is already radiating from me! I don’t need so many choices that are so wild and exuberant. I feel good in solid colors and simple outfits.

~ I bought so much clothing because a part of me was afraid that one day that wouldn’t be possible so I had to buy as much as I can now. Well, that thinking created exactly what I was afraid of happening. Because I spent so much on clothes instead of putting money in savings or tending to other things that needed tending to, all spending is put on hold. But the beautiful thing is, after going through all the clothing and letting so much of it go, I don’t have even the smallest desire to buy any more clothing.

~ It’s not the clothes that people notice about me, it’s the way I make them feel seen, heard and supported. Clothes don’t impact that in any way.

Now I am going through my whole house. Recognizing that there are so many things that I have that serve no purpose other than to sit on a shelf. Then why have it?

I’m in an era of no wasted time, space, money, attention or energy. No more mindless spending. No more unnecessary items.

It’s time to purge.
It’s time to refine.
It’s time to rise.
